Three-Dimensional Figures in Glass Sculptures

The demands of touring and writing several articles for other people has prevented me from updating this blog as often as I’d like, which is, I think, a good problem to have. Today I break the streak of non-posting with an art-related post, an installation at the New York City Ballet, which the artist – Dustin Yellin – calls Psychogeographies. Consisting of found objects and paint sandwiched between pieces of glass, they are spectacular: The process of them being made is quite beautiful, too: I love the beautiful sweeping forms, the snapshot of motion frozen in the glass. They almost look as though they are moving, which I’m sure was the intention.

COLORdash Accent Quad This is not the next big 1700-watt moving light, it’s not even a moving fixture. But it is interesting, because it fills a previously difficult-to-fill role, a small-color changing fixture that has a reasonably tight beam. Accent / cove lights for architectural applications are available, Color Kinetics has several items in this category, but they generally don’t accept DMX and power directly into the fixture1, and generally come with wash optics. The COLORdash Accent light changes that, with a 15° beam angle, it’s perfect for adding a little punch of color that’s more than just a flat wash on a piece of scenery.
